Fully thawed and back to work....

What a night! Thank you to all who came out to CAB last night and braved the cold -- the atmosphere was absolutely electric. Thanks to all of you who rooted on the Boys in Blue watching Time Warner Cable's Metro Sports (or in Spanish on Channel 5), or listening on La Playa (1480 AM) or La Grand D (1340 AM). Wizards Nation was on display last night, and it looked, sounded, and felt sensational.

While plenty went right, we know there are many things we can improve upon. We are committed as a front office to getting it right.

We know that the low-level mid-field camera position obstructed the view of many of our fans sitting on the south side of CAB (sections 111 and 113 in particular). I take the blame for that. I didn't realize that that camera position was going to be so far forward, and that it needed the infrastructure that it did. The platform was built Saturday morning, and I didn't see it until Saturday afternoon. It was dismantled down to a field-level camera without much of the ancillary equipment around it, but it was still blocking the view of many fans. This morning we have been working with the League and Metro Sports to solve this problem. I commit to you that it will be solved by Saturday.

We are also working on amping up the experience in the Beer Garden area by Gate C. That environment can be fantastic pre-game (from 5 pm on) and post-game. We're on it. We also are going to get to work on lighting up the port-a-let bathrooms. We are aware of the issues related to security screen and bag size limitations. These may not be changeable, but we will address. I also hear you regarding the video board graphics being too hard to read. We're somewhat constrained by the size of the video board, but we will look to see if we can simplify the graphics for easier viewing.

As a corporate objective, OnGoal will always strive to collect and implement our customers' suggestions in order to provide the highest levels of customer care possible. If you have suggestions or comments regarding the game day experience, or anything else for that matter, please feel free to email us at customer.service@kcwizards.com or you can email me directly at gcotton@kcwizards.com.

So as our friend at the Kansas City Sports Commission, Kevin Gray, is fond of saying...."Onward and Upward." And GO YOU WIZARDS!!!!!

  1. Thanks Greg for your post. For the first event at CAB, overall I thought it went pretty well. The concourse was continously busy with fans getting some of the great (but a little pricy) food and taking in the atmosphere. I thought the light up board used to direct traffic into the parking lot was a great idea and well placed. I do have a problem with all the spaces that tailgaters were taking up within the blue lot. I thought they we were going to be guided into each slot, but it turned out we were driving around several small tailgates with soccer balls flying everywhere. I love the atmosphere in the parking lot before the game, but with a much smaller lot with limited spaces, the soccer balls flying around needs to be a bit more under control so cars are not damaged. Also, the sound system within the stadium needs to be improved if possible. I sit in section 113, and I had a really hard time hearing Bobby Day announce starting lineups, substitutions, etc. Is there a way to get another speaker set up on the west or north side of the stadium so the sound carries to all areas? Overall a great night...terrific win over DC.

  2. Small issues aside, the CAB provides a wonderful environment for the game.

Sitting behind the Cauldron it is hard to hear anything other than the rabid fans, which creates a wonderful environment for enjoying the game. Great atmosphere, great opening performance by the team as well.

    CAB far exceeded my expectations.

  3. Greg,

Thanx for being a great ownership group.

    One other item.

Can they open the stadium a bit earlier. I for one like get to my spot a good 2 hours or so early to beat the rush.

Also a single team merchandise tent was inadequate.

So much so many people went to the 'dead meat locker' (what a stinker of a name.)

Oh! and in case you forgot, tell the powers that be to turn the heat up!! That was one cold night.

  4. Greg,

Some more porta potties in the parking lot would be great for those of us that like tailgating.

Some trashcans would be nice as well, we're willing to pick up after ourselves, but without trashcans it creates more of a cleaning job for the people cleaning the lot.

And if there's anyway to improve sound that's high up on the list too.

  5. I know there are 30 games, but that was a big win to open the season. Kudos to Onalfo and Vermes for putting this team together and having them ready to play.

The Lopez/Trujillo combo could really prove to be something special. Trujillo never stops and Claudio is just plain smart with a nice touch. I can see such a tandem extending Claudio's career beyond the 2-3 or so years I thought he still had in him. He could be Preki-like.....

    Can't wait till next Saturday.

  6. We came in the back gate by the hotel and avoided much of the traffic at the entrance of the Legends.

The sign told us to turn right for Wizards reserved parking but we saved 10 minutes going straight instead.

  7. Great game and smart move to the CAB. Just imagine, if it was so much better at the CAB how great is going to be in the REAL WIZ STADIUM in two years
