For a 0-0 tie, that was a pretty entertaining match. Watching Jimmy Conrad and Tyson Wahl butt heads (sometimes literally) with Brian Ching, Franco Caraccio and Dwayne De Rosario was a treat. Conrad is showing why he is considered one of the best defenders in MLS.
Both Chance Myers and Roger Espinoza acquitted themselves very well in their first MLS starts. Myers dealt like a veteran with Ching, Caraccio and Houston's dangerous wingers. Espinoza was all over the place and played some very dangerous balls into Claudio Lopez and company.
Kerry Zavagnin tied Nick Garcia's mark for all-time appearances for the Wizards with his 224th appearance. Zavagnin entered for Marinelli at the 26-minute mark after Marinelli appeared to tweak a groin in the early going.
Hartman did very well on a couple of saves. Punching De-Ro's shot over the bar and pushing Davis' shot off the bar were a couple of very classy plays. He almost created a couple of goals also with his early long balls.
Reserves play tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against University of Memphis at Swope. See some of you there?

It was entertaining. Things aren't quite together up top, but it seems to be a matter of more time playing together. Sealy missed some pretty nice serves in these last two games.
ReplyDeleteI wonder-
1. Why Marinelli was yanked so early, it clearly hurt the offensive charge?
2. Why Trujillo didn't come in for Sealy at half?
I think Hartman was the man of the match, with some great saves and very good transitions into attack.
ReplyDeleteI must say its nice to see KC dominate teams, they are fun to watch and its good soccer. However, it would be even nicer to see them score... this way we can see more players "crash the cauldron" prediction? Its also nice to see the youn players do so well.. Chance did well and Espinoza surprised me how dangerous he was!!
ReplyDeleteHow did the Reserve game go?
Hey! As a new season ticket holder in 112 by the goal, I've seen something the first 4 games that is frustrating. There have been times when Kevin Hartman needs a ball quick from one of the "ball kids" and no one has one. There have been times when there have been openings in the other teams defense and he has to wait for a ball. Lets get him the ball QUICK!!!
ReplyDeleteAnybody else find the jersey numbers for "one" and "seven" way too similar? When both Morsink (wearing eleven) and Espinoza (wearing seventeen) are on the pitch at the same time, I have a hard time telling them apart at a glance, from a distance.
ReplyDeleteSince the whole league is using the same font, surely fans of other teams have had the same problem. Maybe the league can issue new sevens to be sewn/ironed on over the current ones?
Just crossing the seven, in the European style, would be enough...they could just sew on the crossbars until they could get new jerseys printed up.
Any game report on the reserves?
ReplyDeleteI have noticed about the ball boys not getting the balls quick enough and perhaps not more ball boys but more balls would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteYes TOTOALLY agree about the 1 and 7 comment
and the Reserves won 5-0 but the goals scorers I don't think are accurate at the DOWNTHE BYLINE site
Man, I was beginning to think my eyesight was going bad on me (better not for at least a few more years since I just had lasik a couple of years ago!).
ReplyDeleteHalf the time I could have sworn Espinoza was wearing 77 when I first glanced at him.
reepicheep: I believe Marinelli tweaked a hammy (I think the original report was groin but later changed to hamstring).
I would have liked to see Colambano come in during the second half. He may not score every time he comes on, but he creates offense with his quick touches.
Would like to have seen Espinoza given opportunity to roam forward a little more as well at times.
