 Reserves Win Exhibition

One night after the first team got back to its winning ways with a 3-2 win over Chivas USA, the reserve squad took on a group of local college players with much success. The reserves won 4-0, on goals from Espinoza, Marinelli, Kraus and Pizarro. Jonathan Leathers left the game early in the first half and colliding with an opponent and cutting his head.

Lineup: Pardo, Myers, Leathers (McKenzie 23), Wahl, Watson, Pizarro, McMahen (Marinelli 46), Morsink (Souter 46), Espinoza, Pore (Kraus 46), Trujillo (guest player #28 46)

Scoring: 15th minute-Trujillo took a ball at the top of the penalty area and fed ahead to Pore on the right side of the area. The goalkeeper was forced to play Pore, and he slid a ball across for Espinoza for an easy finish from close range.

52nd minute- Marinelli collected a ball about 22 yards out in the center of the field and beat the goalkeeper at the back post for a 2-0 lead.

56th minute- Guest player (sorry don't have his info) cut in behind the defense and lofted a ball to Kraus just inside the PK spot. Kraus turned athletically and hit a nice side-volley into the back of the net.

66th minute- Marinelli collected a loose ball in midfield, spun it ahead between two defenders with the outside of his foot for Kraus who turned and fed into space for Pizarro up the right flank. Pizarro took a touch then buried the ball inside the back post for the final 4-0 score line.

I ran into Matt Marquess' parents today at the match. Apparently they read Hillcrest Road often. Thanks for reading, and nice chatting with you! Your son did very well for himself in his first career start last night.
